Level 2 - Bible

Explore major events and significant historical figures of the last week of Jesus’ earthly ministry in this in depth study of the final days of his ministry. Join Bryan K. Fergus as he leads an analysis of the evidence and testimony gathered by the Gospel writers, concerning Jesus’ last week of ministry prior to His crucifixion and resurrection. Drawing on the Four Gospels, archaeological research, and other relevant historical sources, this course will lead you on a journey from Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday up through His trial, execution, and resurrection. You will be encouraged to look at historical data surrounding these events, their theological significance, and their meaning for everyday Christian living.

Counterfeit Gods…The Empty Promises of Money, Sex & Power

Level 3 - Theology/Life Application

Success, money, beauty, love, achievements, and the life you’ve always wanted … many of us place our hope in these things, believing they hold the key to happiness. But the recent economic meltdown has shed a harsh new light on these pursuits. In a matter of months, fortunes, marriages, careers and a secure retirement have disappeared for millions of people. It’s no wonder many people feel lost, alone and disenchanted. But the truth is that many people have unknowingly placed their faith and hope in pursuit of counterfeit gods that cannot provide what they really need. There is only one God who can completely satisfy our needs. Join us as we explore Tim Keller’s new book, “Counterfeit Gods.” Feel free to purchase the book prior to the class, but it’s not required.

The Way of Grace

This group study continues with a focus on spiritual formation and introduces personal use of spiritual practices while walking the faith journey. The topic will be, “The Way of Grace,” and includes readings and discussions that help us engage in a journey of reflection and encounter with Christ. The aim is “to open ourselves more deeply to the transforming grace of God.” This study is based on the resource Companions in Christ. The study guide will be available for purchase the first day of class or from Della Berg in the church office prior to class. Come join us.

Prayer: Does it Make Any Difference

Level 3 - Theology

According to the Bible, there was a time when God and Adam walked together in the garden and conversed as friends. At that time, prayer was as natural as a conversation with a friend or colleague. Yet today many of us, pastors and ordinary Christians, rank prayer high in importance – and also high in cloudiness and frustration. Join us as we begin a study on prayer based on Philip Yancey’s book “Prayer, Does It Make a Difference " In an eight-week series we will explore such questions as:

  • Is God listening
  • Why do so many prayers go unanswered
  • Why does God let the world go on as it does and not intervene
  • Why does God seem sometimes so close and sometimes so far away
  • Does prayer change God or change me

Join us in an interactive study and discussion on the importance and mystery of prayer.
