Presbyterian Women
Presbyterian Women (P.W.) is made up of women of the church who desire fellowship with other women, Bible study, and have a heart for mission. P.W. offers opportunities for all three in a variety of ways. They are as follows:
Circles: Small group Bible studies meet on the second Wednesday of each month. They are made up of women with many interests and life stages, but they all share one thing in common, a desire to learn God’s word and grow in their faith. Studies can be joined at any time during the year and run September thru May. Circles meet at a variety of times and locations. If you would like to be a part of a Circle please contact Beth Glady or Lyn Ambrose.
Women’s Speaker Series and Luncheon: Would you like to meet new women and feel like your time was well spent? Presbyterian Women sponsors a monthly Women’s Speaker Series and Luncheon. The Speaker Series and Luncheon take place from 11:30 until 1:00 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month in Landes Center. Each month offers a different speaker and luncheon menu. Speakers offer talks on a variety of subjects from Christian women’s topics to art and literature to women’s health care. Check the Valley Vine and the Sunday Bulletin for the current month’s speaker. Childcare is available upon request. Reservations for lunch and childcare are required by Friday of the preceding week. Reservations can be made by calling the church office at 480-991-6424.
Mission: Presbyterian Women offer a variety of opportunities for mission involvement. Cooks’ Tour is the largest of these and offers a variety of opportunities to get involved. See the Cooks’ Tour write up for more details. Other opportunities include working on individual projects in conjunction with local ministries such as Childhelp, Sunshine Acres, and others as we are called upon. P.W. is also involved in mission at the denominational level through the Least Coin , Birthday offerings, and Cooks’ Tour donations. Volunteers are always needed, so please contact us with where your interests lie.
Cooks’ Tour: The tradition of Cooks’ Tour originated 39 years ago and continues to transform the VPC campus into a festival-like day for mission the first Friday in November. It is an opportunity for hundreds of volunteers, both men and women, to share their time and talents preparing for a Home Tour, Luncheon, Mission Market and Tea Table. Every Saturday from March through October donations for the White Elephant, Tiffany West, and the Silent Auction are accepted from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. Each Friday in October from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. the church’s kitchen becomes a bake shop staffed by volunteers. Every Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until noon, Crafters’ Workshop gathers in the Calvin Center to create unique boutique items. Baked goods and crafts made at home are also gratefully accepted the week of Cooks’ Tour. The fellowship is fantastic and a marvelous way to meet new friends and to share Christ’s love locally, statewide, nationally and internationally.
Women’s Retreat 2009
The Women's Retreat was held on Saturday, September 26th. Women of all ages and stages participated in “YOU-UNIQUELY CREATED,” a time of connecting with spiritual gifts and talents, so we can use them to serve Jesus Christ. Our speaker Cheri Kuptz, a member of Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church in California, used visual props, hands-on experiences and humor to bring her message to life.
